I am not a very smart person who can predict with absolute certainty the outcome of a situation that includes adrenaline, violence, personal safety and lawlessness. I was told as a boy that if a police person tells you to stop - you stop. If a police person wants to speak to you, you keep your hands to your sides and listen. And best yet, if I do not steal from someone or commit a crime, I wont have to worry about the polices questions. I think the young man in the Ferguson controversy controlled much of the tragedys outcome. To blame the policeman for the young man who was noncompliant, drug influenced, physically violent (cant think of too many individuals who would reach into a police car, be physically violent and try to reach for the policemans gun) is ridiculous and perhaps speaks to your prejudice to authority figures. I am thankful for the police officers who risk their lives and reputations trying to make difficult split-second decisions without the benefit of do overs. I am particularly thankful, and proud, of my nephew Mike McDonald for his service.
