I am not at all sure what it is with my alarm, but when it goes - TopicsExpress

I am not at all sure what it is with my alarm, but when it goes off these mornings it starts raining! So a leisurely start to today, after the shower had passed. No leaves at all on the Poplar trees that surround the campsite, and with the grey sky the place looks quite dismal. After a quick bite to eat and the morning ablutions, it was off to the river, but not before getting the fly tying stuff organised for later today. Arrived at 9:20,and was surprised that the water had not dropped, but had actually risen! Air temperature was 9 degrees, water height 4 8, colour perfect, like tea without milk, condition - perfect. Water temperature - tba (Tony Black will supply shortly)! Only Danny was present, fishing down the back of the island, so I got set up and waded down to the back of the island myself. Fishing a hot head Grainhead Willie Gunn and a Rio 3/4 was a pleasure and about half way down, almost at the dangle the line drew tight, and the rod arched over. Nothing much else happened and I started to suspect that I had caught a log drifting downstream! Just as I began to handline in order to get the strain off the rod, the head began shaking!! Tricky bugger! A dour scrap ensued, with the fish doggedly not running or even rushing around, just hanging out in the current. After almost 15 minutes we saw a pretty clean cock fish of easily double figures. In typical fashion as it was drawn in it made a quick turn headed out and slightly downstream lifted its head and the hook came out. Cest la vie! Fished on for a couple of hours, but other than foul hooking Danny on a back cast there was no further action. The wind had freshened and was a troublesome bluster wind right in the face. So a blether with Allan, Ever present, and Stan at the hut whilst the waders dried in the wind, and then back to the caravan. Got into the tubes, and have done 27 today. More scheduled for tomorrow.
