I am not even officially here, since I had to take a vacation day, - TopicsExpress

I am not even officially here, since I had to take a vacation day, but one of the biggest reasons I came by the office today was to wish y’all a good weekend. I hope that if you celebrate Halloween, you have a safe time; I’m not going to get into the debate over the Day of the Dead and the demonic origins or all the rest of it. Just have fun, but be careful. Enjoy one of the many harvest festivals and trunk or treat things going on tonight and over the weekend. We’re finally going to get a little cool this weekend, so please look after your critters, and someone less fortunate. It doesn’t take much to do the right thing. And as always— Hug your momma. Thank your daddy. Talk to your grandparents. Tell your siblings you love them. Hold your kids so close they squirm. Roll in the grass with your dog. Make faces at a cat. Hug a horse. Crow at a rooster. Joke with a goat. Gossip with a goose. Read to a little kid, and take the time to do something cool together. We can learn a lot from little kids, before they grow up and the world breaks their hearts. Watch that beautiful moon rise tonight, and then celebrate a sunrise, and reflect on a sunset. Count the veins in a leaf. Smell some dirt. Listen to a river. Listen to a baby cry. Count the stars in one corner of the sky. Then remember that the one who created all of these things loves you enough to sacrifice His son for your sins, that you might not have to spend eternity in Hell, but instead, can be with Him. If that ain’t humbling, call me. We need to talk. Do something nice for someone, for no reason except to be nice. Give a caregiver a break. Babysit for a wornout mom. Leave your change in the donation jar. Leave a bigger tip. Buy someone’s coffee. Hold the door for a stranger. Smile. You can find a hundred ways to help, if you’ll stop and look with your heart. Read your Bible every day – if you don’t have one, call me. We can change that, I promise. Go to church Sunday, and listen to the message. Pray for the man in the pulpit, and his family. Pray for those who are hurting, lost or disconsolate. Pray for those who are doing well and have it all together. Pray for someone you don’t like, and someone who doesn’t like you. If you run out of things and people to pray for – take a deep breath, and ask God. He likes for His children to ask how they can help. Hold hands with the one you love, and do so proudly. Never let that person forget what they mean to you. Pay attention to the little things that make them smile. And never miss a chance to say I Love You. The day is winding to a swifter than planned close, my friends, and since I’m not even officially here, I reckon I can run for the door like a hound hot on a haunted trail. As always, though, holler if you need me, and I’ll try to be the friend I might need sometime. Rattle the dog box and wake up the possums – the Wildman is ready to howl. Y’all be good.
