I am not fond of very long posts, particularly when they involve my personal feelings. However, this one has been “dancing in my mind” for quite some days now, and though I have tried to make it go away, it refuses and only comes back stronger… I have thus decided to come out and here it goes: #GoodLuckExpressingYourself I reflect on the many consequences of the most recent genocide in Gaza and think many things. For instance, I am happy to see change, but would like more people to stop buying into the media’s discourse, calling a genocide a “war” and an “assault”. No people, what happened in Gaza was the mass murder of civilians –women and children included –and that is called a genocide! Yes, an entire ethnic group and nation targeted to steal away their land, resources, identity, dignity, and honor! As a “newbie” activist, I am overjoyed to see the number of those of us who raise our voices grow, in numbers and in being vocal. I still think, though, that much remains to be done. We cannot stop boycotting, reading, informing ourselves and others, exposing, and most of all, knowing the struggle of Palestinians will not be over until their land has been rightfully returned and their rights enforced and guaranteed. Many people speak about the “ceasefire”, its terms over and over violated by the Zionist government that occupies Palestine. Well, fishermen are still attacked while trying to bring food to their families! There are still no jobs! Towns were destroyed and no materials have been brought in to rebuild them. As a result, many of my dear Gazan friends have damaged or non-existent homes. Water is polluted, food is expensive, children are maimed or orphaned, and many times, the souls of loved ones overwhelmed with sadness and hopelessness. In my opinion, any human rights organizations or committees should include these as more crimes against humanity committed in Gaza. And mind you! I stand here and condemn all the Arab countries who stood there and watched as their Palestinian brothers and sisters died, the rest of the world that was indifferent, Egypt as an enforcer of the siege and the US, with a double discourse of “human rights” while financing genocides in the Middle East! I also thank those countries –especially Algeria, Tunisia, Malaysia, and others –that in many ways have helped my beloved Gaza! #Gaza #CrimesAgainstHumanity #Impunity Yet, in spite of this all… Without having been physically to Gaza I feel entirely connected to this beautiful city, its food, culture, and most of all, its wonderful people. Ever since I made friends with people from Gaza or that are in Gaza, my life has changed for the best. And this is what I also wanted to express, since many times I do not have the time to do so. Today I am thankful for all my Palestinian friends, but especially for those in Gaza. I have seen on FB images that read “We teach life, sir!” and how true that is! I am a happier and better person because of each of you! I smile more! I feel loved and appreciated! I have learned and grown so much! I no longer take anything for granted and strive to be humbler and to give much more love every day. I love you all so much! It is a wonderful feeling and I can only say I cannot wait until I get to meet each of you in person! Also, thank you each of you, who like me, were not born in Gaza but work so hard for her! #MyHeartInGaza #ILoveGaza #GazaInMyHeart #VivaPalestine
