I am not going to name names here, but once again on another page an individual brought up the question of why the SCV continues to display the US flag that our ancestors fought against. The following was my response: Sir, to answer your question I would refer you to the following photograph, only one of hundreds featuring the Confederate veterans of that War. Note which flags theyre flying, in addition to the battle flag and the state flag of Virginia? Yep Old Glory. You will also find this to be the case in other photos of the time, among gatherings of the United Confederate Veterans. Consider also that the SCV is the heir apparent of the UCV, and made up of ancestors of these same men. The SCV follows tradition, follows the examples of those Confederate Veterans - the ones who actually did the fighting, the bleeding, the dying - and NOT the examples of a few modern hotheads who have issues with the US government for whatever reason. If those aged veterans thought it appropriate to display the US flag, who are we to argue or even object? Also remember that a good many current SCV members (including myself) are - or were at one time - US servicemen themselves. Indeed plenty of those who honor both the US flag and the Southern Cross of our ancestors are in the military today fighting to defend your freedom and mine to debate this particular issue.
