I am not sending Xmas cards this year and have instead donated to this worthy cause £ 10 - buys a weeks worth of meals for one child at the Bayti day centre. Association Bayti (which means my house) does amazing work with young people. In Essaouira, they provide a hot meal 5 days a week to around 80 kids and have on-site educators and social workers to support them. The non-formal education programme at Bayti seeks to bring kids who do not attend school up to speed with the curriculum so that when they are ready (educationally, administratively and psychologically), they can be re-inserted into the state school system. The program has had incredible results. At the end of the last academic year, 5 out of 6 Bayti youngsters who took their Baccalauréat (A-level equivalent taken aged 18) passed and will continue their studies at university. Over the 15 years that Bayti has worked in Essaouira, 37 kids have passed their Bac, significantly improving their confidence, employability and life chances. £ 50 - buys a months worth of medicine to ensure Bayti kids go to school healthy £ 60 - buys the school kit needed for one child for the start of the academic year 2015 £ 200 - pays one year’s scholarship for one university student £ 300 - pays the salary of one educator at Bayti for one month
