I am not sure what was meant. A few days ago a news item on radio was that Dewani would be welcomed upon his arrival in South Africa, early in April 2014. He is to be tried for murdering his very pretty bride Anni. I am not sure whether a red carpet will be rolled out from the airplane to the VIP lounge, whether the President, the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Minister of Justice will welcome him. I also do not know whether his trial will be accorded the same sort of publicity that the Pisstorius trial is receiving. Perhaps it will, time will tell (it always does). Interpreters in South Africa seem to be in very short supply. Probably due to affirmative action. There was the rather hilatious incident when his gracious excellency, the worshipful Jacob Zuma at the handing over of something to Brasil had a comic adding much needed comedy to an otherwise dull occasion. There were muted mutterings about an interpreter at the Pisstorius trial. Let us hold thumbs that this wont happen at the Dewani trial. Pliny the Elder, you that old Roman who was amazed at Africa, who knew only the very north of Africa, the part close to the Mediterranean Sea and Egypt? Knowing only that small bit of Africa he said that there is always something new out of Africa. What would he have said had he known South Africa? I shudder to think. You know the story of Jacb Zumas visit to Malawi? Malawis president introduced him to their Minister Of Naval Affairs. Jacob said: But you dont have a navy, you are a landlocked country. Malawis president replied: That is irrelevant you do have a Minister of Justice, dont you?
