I am not sure where to post an issue with payment of our real estate taxes yesterday. We usually pay by mail, but didnt get it together this year and planned to deliver our full payment to the tax collectors house. I arrived about 9:30 am, to be chastised for not coming during the scheduled hours of 3-7 pm on Friday. Apologized for not knowing the hours, apparently they are printed on the bill. Now Friday August 29, 2014, the day I was delivering my payment, was the deadline for paying this tax bill, and Friday is also a payday for many people. In this particular circumstance, for people trying to meet the deadline, is it unreasonable that the tax office should offer some flexibility in their Friday schedule, just this once? Kinda like the post office does at tax time? She did accept my payment, but clearly was not pleased at my early arrival. I felt like I ruined her day. She did soften a bit - but her initial unwelcoming manner stuck with me. Should not the tax collector want people to pay their taxes and welcome them? I do understand this is a part-time job and she should not be expected to have people come to her house 24-7. but on tax deadline day, even if it is a Friday, the tax collectors office should be open for business.
