I am noticing a few furs on facebook dealing with some sudden symptoms of depression. If you guys have a therapist, please call them soon. A friend can only do so much and distance really makes it hard. I know what it is to deal with depression and anxiety. I also know about seasonal affective disorder. I have it. Sometimes it hits me hard with wet and cool weather. I will recommend a couple things that work for me: 1.) If you have something chocolate, have some. It causes the release of endorphins in the brain that create good feelings. 2.) Meditation: Some soothing music or sounds can also help. Here is an exercise my therapist taught me. Close your eyes and breath in slowly through your nose for three seconds. Then, after a brief pause, release just as slowly through the mouth and repeat until you are relaxed. Long, deep and slow breaths. Also, look into what is called guided meditation. Sometimes, taking your mind to another place can help. I have used guided meditations to take me to the woods or the ocean. YouTube is loaded with videos. Use search terms such as meditation or relaxation. Some noise cancelling headphones or a quiet room is advised for best results. DO NOT DO WHILE DRIVING! lol 3.) Exercise. Take a walk or go for a run. Get your blood pumping! Some place scenic, if available. 4.) Read a book. Forget newspapers or the internet. A book will not bombard you with everyone elses problems or politics. An adventure in your mind. Put yourself in the position of the hero or heroine in a good story. Take yourself out of the situation that is troubling you. 5.) Phone someone. Pick up the phone and call someone. Sometimes we spend so much time online, feeling lonely and bored because no one is chatting, we forget that we can seek out some conversation on our own. Maybe someone nearby, whom you can visit with for a bit. Obviously, call ahead, to be polite. 6.) Crafting. Do something crafty. Draw, sew....or even redecorate your room or apartment. Sometimes a fresh look will make you feel better, via feng shui. 7.) Clean. Ya, I said it. Sometimes a sense of accomplishment and productivity can ease the symptoms. 9.) Watch a movie. Obviously, comedy is good. Avoid romantic comedies if you are lonely and looking for love. Sometimes a good horror movie will get the blood pumping and make you feel alive again! A silly cartoon is also good! 8.) (Your activity here) Anything is better than dwelling on what you may not have the power to change. Distract yourself. I have thought of everything I could think of. The rest is up to you. I hope you all have a good night! HUGZ and
