I am now the proud owner of a Lenovo laptop. I havent even seen it yet as I was too Pizzled to go pick it up, Sent hubby instead. My second Toshiba satellite took a dump last month, wouldnt connect to the internet, and other problems, and none of the companies involved wanted to accept responsibility. It WAS under warranty, but every one of them wanted extra money to fix what they said wasnt their problem. See when Lizs computer (same model but new out of the box) had a key that wouldnt work the Kentwood Office Depot I called and they replaced it free of charge and even reloaded all of her software back on for free. When one of MY keys didnt work I got from Office Depot Its a software issue, not hardware. We are only responsible for the hardware and then only for 90 days. but if you want to pay for an extended warranty ($160) we will fix it for free. Microsoft, Its a hardware issue but we have a work-around but youll have to pay for us to fix it. Toshiba- It is a software issue, we only cover for that for 90 days. Now mind you it was a Toshiba BIOS update that screwed the computer in the first place. And mine wasnt the only one. There were so many people with the same issues that Microsoft came up with a patch/workaround so the computers would work. This was the fix that they all wanted to sell me and my husband found online for FREE! After 2 months of back and forth, allowing each of these companies to use remote access to my computer, Id had enough. I contacted Office Depot Corporate offices and DEMANDED they take responsibility or I was going to post everything online, then said I might just do it anyway. To be fair once the Office Depot Store Manager heard about it from the corporate offices, the process sped up. It required being without it 8 days while the Office Depot tech looked at it, (at their cost), the he offered to repair or replace it on his dime and when it was finally discovered that it was a motherboard issue offered to send it free of charge to Toshiba, I blew.He couldnt understand why I was so upset- until I informed him that classes start in 2 weeks (actually 2 1/2 but who is counting) and I couldnt wait for it to go to Japan, get worked on, and then come back. So he offered me a deal. I could choose from the ones he had in stock up to the amount I paid for my old one. Hubby decided to upgrade to a better machine with a faster processor for $50. (my early birthday present) So, I now have a new touchscreen Lenovo (Joe says its IBM) with a better processor for $50 and a 1 year warranty. Hopefully, I wont have issues with it. Laptops that cost $600 (on sale) from $799) SHOULD last longer than 10 months. Just saying. Maybe Ill still buy stuff at Office Depot after all.
