I am, of course, glad that significant progress in recent years with regard to treatments to prevent individuals with HIV developing AIDS. However, there is still much more which can be done to lower infection rates, and to ensure that those with HIV can lead full lives, free from discrimination. Also, I have been deeply concerned by the trend since 2007 which has seen the number of MSM becoming infected with HIV increase. That is why I showed my support for Stop AIDS at Labour Party Conference this year. This campaign, which is supported by 80 agencies, calls on the UK to lead a strong global response to HIV and AIDS which involves governments, charities and businesses.
