I am of predominately of Indian descent born and raised in Jamaica - TopicsExpress

I am of predominately of Indian descent born and raised in Jamaica until my teens. However 3 sets of my great grandparents came over from India and the rest of my ancestry is of African heritage as well as Irish. However a significant percentage of people here in the western part of the United States tend to have a hard time believing me or get confuse when they find out or hear me say I am Jamaican including my own fellow Jamaicans. Their response is often times but you are Indian! Are people just crazy? This is especially frustrating when other Jamaicans say this for a number of common senses reasons plus as Jamaicans we all know that we have a diverse ethnic island hence our motto out of many one people. We need to be better educated: Jamaicans dont speak spanish, we are not British? Etc. For non- Jamaicans there is plenty of resources out there to research on various cultures and countries. What defines a person as Jamaican?
