I am personally thoughtful as regards to this feud and lingering crisis between agatu and fulani herdsmen, which has claimed many lives and rendered others Homeless. It is indeed a genocide crime not only against a particular ethnic group, but against Humanity, because we are all human beings before any sentiment that tends to create disparity between us. In the light of these ugly trends brought about by this crisis which has continued unabated, it is high time for our Leaders at all levels most especially the Traditional Leaders to rised up to the challenges and do the needful, in order to return normalcy to the land; the relevance of Traditional Leaders and Leadership has gone far beyond merely sitting in the palace to receive royalties and watch ur subjects or followers suffering every form of Injustice and high-handedness; we are not here to insult any bodi, but at this junction, It has become imperative for us to remind our Leaders that, what is worth doing is worth doing well. And we can not afford to fold our arms watching evil to ruin our land. I am not here to give an arbitrary judgement or verdict that, fulani herdsmen are right or wrong, neither am I saying that, agatu are right or wrong, because attack is an attack; be it repraisal or otherwise. And the root-cause of this Unrest we are facing today is not far fetched from Injustice. Nevertheless, we must exercise high sense of Maturity and Diplomacy in order to avert further excalation of this crisis. Both agatu and fulani herdsmen are Non-Indigines of Omala-Abejukolo and its Metropolis and Non of them should be given precedence over one another. Meanwhile, the safety of lives and properties of Omala-Abejukolos Indigines shouldnt be forfeited for anything; Our Traditional Leaders in Omala-Abejukolo should stop being biased and treat both agatu and fulani herdsmen equally, since they are both settlers in the land; U can not chased fulani herdsmen away, give Hospitality to agatu and expect peace to reign. And U can not chased agatu away, give fulani herdsmen Hospitality and expect peace to reign. If they (fulani and agatu) are to be chased, both of them should be chased; If they are to be given Hospitality, both of them should be given an equal Hospitality in due course, because whats sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. It is not a bad idea to solicit for the donor agencies-NEMA, red cross e.t.c to donate relief materials to the (Internally Displaced Persons)-IDPs. And It is equally important to deploy troops (armed-forces) to maintain peace and orderliness in the land. But these are mere palliative measures which can not prevent these ugly trends of crisis from re-surfacing; the much needed thing to do was to identify the root-cause(s) of this crisis and tackled it holistically, once and for all. -(Omala Youth) MUHAMMAD ABDULKAREEM
