I am philosophically-opposed to the death penalty for the same - TopicsExpress

I am philosophically-opposed to the death penalty for the same reason that I dont consume an item that resulted in the death of a warm-blooded organism. I use warm-bloodedness as a tool for determining if an organism possesses consciousness, but only as a tool. There are other things that I bring into consideration before I decide if something poseesses sentiency. So, my rule is this: If consciousness is the best thing going on in this universe, then we should protect it in all of its manifestations. We have no way of knowing if someone would write a book, while in prison, that could change the way we think about something. We are making the assumption that no good will ever come out of someone when we shorten their time here in this reality.
