I am proud to say I will be continuing my work with the Beagle Freedom Project, and various other animal groups that save animals from testing. These photos are a preview of a recent lab rescue, Emma, that will be used for campaign ads, brochures etc. What is that in her ear you ask? A tattoo used for identification for lab use. What happened to her ears? We dont know, but obviously for testing, the shaved areas are now growing back. Although the photos are sad, Emma is very happy, and she will be going to a loving family - very soon. Worldwide, hundreds of thousands of dogs are used, and ultimately killed in cruel and absurd laboratory tests. Dogs are favored for toxicology studies. They basically pump their bodies - slowly poisoning them. In one case in Ohio, a study involved running a dog on a treadmill until the dog had a heart attack, so they can study the heart tissue. Huntingdon Life Sciences in England is the largest contract research organization in Europe. The dogs there usually run on 40 week trials, their lifespan on the production line style of this facility. Say No to animal testing of any kind. Its been 65 years since the animal testing laws were introduced, science has revolutionized our understanding of human biology, how it differs from other species. Animals cannot predict human outcome. There are many ways we can test for humans, one being the use of donated human tissues. Our government must remove legal requirement for animal tests and replace them with test methods that are relevant to only humans. And the sooner the better, for human health and animal welfare.
