I am puzzled the Red Sox would not pay for Lester to stay, - TopicsExpress

I am puzzled the Red Sox would not pay for Lester to stay, because, who better to spend money on than a player you developed and helped you win 2 World Series, is always healthy and a lock for 200 innings and 15-17 wins each year (I believe Bill Lee averaged 17 wins per year for 4 years). Having said that, I like the direction the Sox are taking at the trading deadline. Between now and next season they need to improve the defense on the left side of the infield, develop a lead off hitter, get another solid middle relief pitcher and find a #1 caliber starting pitcher. With all their top prospects and financial flexibility I truly think the Sox can do it. Thoughts?
