I am reading the City Council Meeting Packet. We cant afford to employ a second plow crew but the council is been advised to spend 140,000 dollars to have the Civic Center repainted. A better alternative is to keep that money here in Valdez, using our existing city employees and these types of tasks could be completed by the folks manning the second plow crew. This not only creates jobs for the folks here in Valdez who are already feeling the pinch of the economy, but this is also smart spending. It is these types of projects that can be handled in house and monies saved can fill budget caps instead of raising the mill rate and passing on the bill the citizens of Valdez.
