I am sad to report that Arvada K-8 denied their students of their first amendment rights today. Some teachers, along with 3 local police officers blocked the doors to prevent the children from showing their support for their education. Pretty sad. Are we trying to raise a dumbed down version of our already mundane society? Have you not all seen Idiocracy? So angry. I asked both my kids why the protest was happening and why they wanted to participate. I got logical and educated reasons from both. As long as they werent doing it just because everyone else was. It at least a majority. Both my children are honors students and have strong beliefs in what is happening in Jefferson County right now. I believe offering them a secured place such as the gym or school field to have a place to be heard would have been a better solution. Have a well liked teacher remind them that peaceful protest is a must, in order to be heard. Anything but what they did. I am very disappointed. Staff has had plenty of notice of the talk of the walk out. There are ways to allow it where their security is not being compromised. They could have used it as an example to teach about peaceful protest and the effect if their numbers. End rant.
