I am saddened and worried about the future of this Country. Can we - TopicsExpress

I am saddened and worried about the future of this Country. Can we continue this way and what legacy are we going to bequeath future generations? How can we sit by and some of our own connive with foreigners to rip this Country off? How? And we sit back and blame politicians. We live in a Country where women still die because they have no access to hospitals, children who have committed no crime are forced to learn under trees because we have no schools, we drive on roads that are death traps and claim Ghanaian lives. We are blessed beyond measure with natural resources but we sit here for foreigners to exploit our resources and pay a pittance to the Government in the name of royalties. I weep for the Motherland. We sit here as a people and pay GHS 51m to a man who has no contract with Government as per His own admissions? National assets were sold like there was a donkomi auction. Ghana Telecom was sold with our National fibre optic network, Ghana Telecom University and SAT3. The profit making Drill Ship Discoverer D511 was sold for an undervalued US $24m and there is no sensible explanation for even $1of the money. And we have the mind boggling rot that has bedevilled GYEEDA cannot escape mention. Then we hear today from the Presidential Task Force that United Steel Company Ltd connived with Ghanaian Customs Officers to defraud the State of US $86m, Hippo Group of Companies defrauded by US $48m, Trusty Food Ltd defrauded by US $21m, Movelle Company Ltd defrauded by US $20m, Dry Food Processing Company Ltd defrauded by US $8m, Caitec Delta Ltd defrauded by US $7m, Euro Food Ghana Ltd defrauded by US $2m, B5 Plus Ltd defrauded by US $16m and CCTC Ghana Ltd defrauded by US $10m. What is even shocking is State institutions like Electricity Company of Ghana, Tema Oil Refinery and Ministry of Communications defrauded by US $877, 329, US $2m, US $1.7m respectively. How can we continue like this? These are crimes by any stretch of the imagination. People are spending 10years in Nsawam prisons for stealing 10 fingers of plantain yet people are walking free despite all of these outrageous infringements of our law. I commend the President for setting up the Judgement Debt Commission and the Presidential Task Force but action must go beyond that. The prosecution must start irrespective of whose ox is gored. I weep for the Motherland.
