I am saddened to hear of the passing of Governor Mario Cuomo. I admired his ability to lead and inspire and was fortunate to have an unforgettable moment with him. The Christmas after I wrote my peace anthem At the Same Time, I sent my demo, lyric and letter to many world leaders. One day, in January I got a call at 8 AM from a man with a deep, beautiful voice. He said, Is this Ann Hampton Callaway? I said, barely awake, Yes. Did you write a song called At the Same Time? I said, Yes. He said, Did you send that song to Governor Mario Cuomo? I said, Yes. He said, This is Governor Mario Cuomo. I wanted to call you before I started the budget to thank you for writing this song. I would like it to be the theme of The Decade of the Child. And it was. Thank you, Governor Mario Cuomo. You took time to show you cared. I will miss you and that magnificent voice that was the instrument of your soul. Rest in peace now...
