I am sharing a blog... not just a post, because Mikes last three posts are amazing! Mike touches on a lot of business issues we all face (cake or not... any artist will appreciate them). Some things I agree with and others not so much, but the point is that his posts really make you think and evaluate not only your business, but yourself as well! I highly encourage all of you to read his posts as a way to elevate yourself and stop worrying about everyone else. Be the best that you can be and do what works for you and your business in order to be successful. And if you you havent check out Black Sheep Custom Cakes, well youre missing out on seeing some really amazing cakes!!!! (That he doesnt charge enough for, by the way!) :) I hope to follow up this post with my own thoughts on pricing, but I will leave you with this... If you find the right client that appreciates the art you create for them, they will have no issues with the price you charge because they value your ability. Not everyone is our client and we wholeheartedly accept that and move on. (If I didnt have bills to pay, I might think differently.) We charge what we need to cover our costs and take home a small paycheck. I dont live a glamorous life and often find myself wishing I had more time to spend with my family, but I love what I create as a designer and artist.
