I am sharing this story, because we need to know that it happened. However, I will not be so quick to label this incident as anything more than (likely) a bunch of knuckle headed and bored youth with nothing better to do trying to get some attention for themselves and have some fun... by repeating things they KNOW will get their actions reported... and YES, that IS bad enough, and needs to be addressed -- but not thru the mandatory sentences that come with "hate crimes" -- but rather through greater awareness on the part of the whole community, and increased options for safe and healthy activity for youth of all ages, especially in the heat of the summer... of course, if it turns out that ANY of these targets were deliberately picked by individuals with a history of pernicious behaviors of the same kind, THAT would be a different issue... but sadly, Nazi symbols on identifiably Jewish buildings seem to be a classic example of the activity I described at the start... non-pathological, learned through popular media, and absent (in most cases) the assumed deliberate malice, as much for lack of an awareness of the impact these symbols still have on us, the presumed "target"...
