I am sharing this video along with these words to help paint a picture of where people of Polynesian heritage heading due to Western influences in food and I dont mean any offence to anyone reading. At the moment I am reading a book called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Dr. Weston A. Price, DDS. Instead of looking at people afflicted with disease symptoms, he decided to focus on healthy individuals and challenged himself to understand how they achieved such amazing health. He observed high dental arches, minimal tooth decay, high immunity to tuberculosis and overall excellent health in those groups of people who ate their indigenous foods. He found when these people were introduced to modernised foods, such as white flour, white sugar, refined vegetable oils and canned goods, signs of degeneration such as dental caries, deformed jaw structures, crooked teeth and arthritis quickly became evident. Processed foods simply didnt supply all of the minerals that people had been getting from their traditional cultural foods. In Stanhope Andrews short film of Samoa in 1949, you can see how the combination of laborious work and a traditional Samoan diet had those living on the Islands in good shape. Today, over 70% of Samoans are overweight. The food that has come from European Colonisation is killing us people from the Islands. Our parents and grandparents left islands like Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and PNG for us to have better lives; as first and second generation Poly-Australian representatives for our respective cultures, lets take the initiative to live healthier, traditional food based diets and help secure a healthy future for our culture and people. If any brothers or sisters can help me out in gathering information and a support network, I would love to put a group together where we could all help out and fight chronic disease within our cultural communities together, from our generation onwards. God did not bless us with the opportunities we have in lands like Australia for us to choke on KFC bones. We are warriors, we must fight current eating trends and return to who we are to ensure the future of our daughters and sons, of our nieces and nephews x
