I am shouted out and THIS is a great point: "Hardcore Bamford fans may be familiar with some of the new album’s material. Some of the routines—including such evocatively titled bits as “Paula Deen’s Suicide Note,” “Vegetarian Oscar Schindler,” and “What Belief in God Feels Like”—appeared on her previous album, 2012′s The Special Special Special! But there’s a difference. Ask Me About My New God! was recorded live at the Helium Comedy Club in Portland, Oregon, a room that holds 275 people. The Special Special Special! was recorded in Bamford’s living room, before an audience of three—her mom, dad, and elderly pug. Even though the material may be the same, listening to her dominate a room full of people makes for an entirely different experience from the weird pauses and quiet atmosphere of her parents’ house. When she compares her suicidal impulses to other “repetitively shit ideas” she’s had (like buying day-old raisin bread in bulk and freezing it) on The Special Special Special!, it’s impossible not to wonder how her parents feel about the joke. The same bit, on Ask Me About My New God!, straight-up kills: Suddenly it’s collective catharsis, a room full of people laughing together at the bad stuff. In other words, comedy at its finest."
