I am sick and tired of hearing some ignorant or ill-intentioned commentator accusing Muslim community to sympathise with Daʿish, the self-proclaimed Islamic State. No there is not a caliphate dream in almost every Muslim Sunni as T. Friedman claimed it. The first victims of those barbaric, terrosit zealots are the Muslims themselves who fled by thousand their despotic ruling. It happens that I was born and raised as a Muslim though never been taught that I am a Sunni, being Sunni doesnt mean anything for me. I belong to a religion whose messenger are Mohamed, Jesus, Abraham... (peace be upon them), my religion is the one of the virgin Mary, the most righteous women mentioned more in the Quran than in the entire New Testament. Islam has always been a religion of great tolerance allowing mosaic of faiths and communities to live side by side. It is why the Middle-East is so diverse. The peaceful coexistence between communities come to an end only with the US invasion of Iraq. If I have to state the obvious, Muslims like any other community want to live in a state that would respect their basic human rights i.e. freedom, rule of law, dignity... So please the Islamic State or any other extremist group doesnt speak for me or my community.
