I am sick of the president, a constitutional lawyer and others - TopicsExpress

I am sick of the president, a constitutional lawyer and others saying that we are a democracy. We are NOT. We are a REPUBLIC. The key difference between a democracy and a republic lies in the limits placed on government by the law, which has implications on minority rights. Both forms of government use a representational system where citizens vote to elect politicians to represent their interests and form the government. However, in a republic, a constitution or charter of rights protects certain inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by the government, even if it has been elected by a majority of voters. In a pure democracy, the majority is not restrained and can impose its will on the minority. Since the US is actually a Republic, it is governed by rule of law. The elected are supposed to be bound by oath to the written governing limits (ie constitution) yet vote together and create laws to address concerns of the represented in a democratic way. So what does it tell you when the government gets so big that it can create a need for the people to depend on it instead of the government being of the people, for the people, working for us...? Programs get infiltrated into the system like Common Core where tests are given to middle school children asking them which two of the Constitutional protects would they strike from the constitution? What!? The government is trying to indoctrinate us from the top and bottom and no one notices...well, I DO! I am tired of it! I will not stop posting these discrepancies. If you dont like them, just scroll on by but dont say, I had no idea this was happening.
