I am so deeply honoured to announce that the graphic novel of my dreams, A Blanket of Butterflies has just been signed with Portage and Main in Winnipeg. When I reworked the story last year, I had Scott Hendersons artwork in mind as I adore his night scenes. If you can, check out the incredible 7 Generations Series that he and David Alexander Robertson have created together. Scotts intensity in the faces of his characters gave me all I needed to see that final scene. I ended up reworking the story backwards. I am proud to say that Scott will be the artist for this project and it will be out next year. A Blanket of Butterflies honours the grace of storytelling and the observance of family and cultural protocol to stop escalating warfare. You will see the giant Flinch, Torchy and Sfen working together, and you will meet the man they call Benny the Bank. You will also meet a young boy, Sonny, who meets a mysterious stranger whos come to town to restore honour to his family and to himself. I am proud of this story because it honours Fort Smith, like Three Feathers, the other graphic novel that we have coming out with Portage and Main (with a jawdroppingly gorgeous cover by Menton3!!) and illustrated by Krystal Mateus. So many of the stories that Im working on right now are all inspired by Fort Smith and the wonderful people who live there. Mahsi cho for your inspiration, everyone. Heres to dreams coming true! :) Richard Van Camp
