I am so disheartened. Today while visiting my foster care students at a local high school, I had a student say to me: "You can just quit the fake-happy act. I know you are not really happy to see me." I tried to explain that I truly am happy to meet with every one of my kids and help in any way I can. He again repeated that it must all be an act. How very sad, so young but with such a chip on his shoulder. Perhaps over this year I can help him overcome this need to build barriers and push away people who want to and can provide help and support. This new job sure does tug at my heart.
