I am so fortunate to have made friends with the poet Stanley Radhuber, who lives just up the road in Aubignan. Stanley gave me a wonderful present: a signed copy of his latest collection of poetry titled Le Village. It is a series of vignettes on life in Provence. Fittingly, I found a short poem titled OCTOBER as I turned the page this morning: OCTOBER "Octobre pale et pur" The occasional lone bird, plants shedding, bending in repose, colors softening before the coming of stark winter, the sky grey and silent, for now, soft and comforting, A bird flaps noisily, lands on top of a wall, looks down; the cat looks up, ears bracing forward -- the bird cocks its head, takes in the scene, and flies off; the cat tucks her head back under her leg. A few dead leaves rustle as they fall. The air holds a fragile balance; All is suspended in this October sky. -- Stanley Radhuber #MarkAndRomeoEurope2013
