I am so grateful to be able to celebrate Christmas with my family - TopicsExpress

I am so grateful to be able to celebrate Christmas with my family today. At the same time, I am mindful of all those who no longer feel welcome in their families homes after coming out. For LGBT people who have been shunned by their Christian parents, churches, or friends, Christmas can be a painful reminder of communities and relationships that have been lost. But that is precisely why the message of Christmas is so important for LGBT people who are struggling with family rejection. For today, we celebrate a God who desires to be with us so strongly that he meets us in our marginalization, our powerlessness, and our sense that perhaps no one cares about us. And more than that: we celebrate a God who experienced the pain and suffering that rejected LGBT people experience, who persevered, and who triumphed over oppression, ostracism, and injustice. No matter where you are today, or if you have a family or a church that embraces you or not, the creator of the universe himself became powerless flesh in order to be with you, to suffer with you, and to love you. Take comfort in the love of God, who will go to any length to be there for you even when no one else is. And if you are so blessed, like I am, to have a family that affirms and embraces you, please take a moment to pray for those who do not. Call a friend who may be alone this Christmas day, and seek to show them the matchless love of Jesus. For perhaps the greatest hope for hurting LGBT people today is the good news that a baby boy born into little privilege and status went on to become a king for the oppressed, the outcasts, and the hopeless -- and for them. Merry Christmas, all!
