I am so honored to be a recipient of the Washington Peace Centers - TopicsExpress

I am so honored to be a recipient of the Washington Peace Centers 2014 Activist Awards. The Grassroots Gala and ceremony is tonight - sadly I may be too ill to actually make it (the semester has ruthlessly caught up with me) but I hope that #DC folks can roll through and support the Center and affirm their vision of peace - which is the radical pursuit of justice. This award means so much because it doesnt belong to me but to the tireless work of activists, organizers, writers, teachers, protesters, cultural workers, media workers, and organizations like the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, Al-Shabaka Jadaliyya Badil Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights US Palestinian Community Network Mondoweiss Electronic Intifada Institute for Policy Studies Institute for Middle East Understanding ( IMEU )and the DC Palestine Film Festival. It belongs to the academic associations who have changed the tide in the United States by endorsing academic boycott, like the American Studies Association, the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association on Facebook, the Asian American Studies Association, and most recently MESA: Middle East Studies Association NA and the American Anthropological Association and to the fearless and intrepid SJP National student leaders among many others who have together and collectively taken apart the insidious notion that the question of Palestine is a national security issue and squarely re-centered it as a social justice one. Congratulations to you all. Congratulations also to the other recipients of the 2014 Activist Award who are holding it down in DC for tenants, environmental justice, immigrants, youth, laborers, food security, and human dignity.
