I am so mesmerized by ultramarathoners (those that run fifty plus miles). I look at these ultramarathoners, and I marvel at what goes on in their heads. The sheer mental strength it takes to rise above the fatigue, the pain, the loneliness, of hours of running. I understand, now, why so many have found running that distance a spiritual experience. Some may call it crazy or hallucinogenic, but I believe you simply can not achieve running that distance without being courageous enough to surrender to something higher within yourself.
