I am so muhfugging excited about this. I home visit with children ages birth-three and I cant help but be sad when sometimes parents dont understand why I push books from birth. Most of human brain development occurs in the first three years of life, and whatever brain functions arent stimulated then...its pretty much you dont use it, you lose it. Its called pruning when the infant/toddler brains neural connections die off if they arent stimulated. Visual tracking, joint attention, nurturing, exposure to new words (splatter, howl, rocketship, wild rumpus), bedtime routines, love of books and seeing them as sources of joy and pleasure even if its a baby teething on a book, early exposure to the conventions of print (left to right, top to bottom), exposure to changes in the readers vocal pitch building listening skills, fine motor skills to turn a page or lift a flap or peep Touch & Feel board books, ahhh I could go on. Read to your seed! *steps off soapbox*
