I am so over all this constant Political drama being posted about the Age Pension being raised to 70. Admittedly, I have no reason to whinge...as I turned 65 last Friday so I am already an Aged Pensioner. 5 years ago the Labor Government you all seem to love so much...implemented the rise of Aged Pensioner entitlement to 67 years. Their reasons for this were: Aged Pension had not increased since its inception in 1909. When it was first introduced, only half the Male population reached Retirement Age & only had the benefit of about 11 years in Retirement. Today, over 85% of the Male population reach Retirement Age & have the benefit of over 19 years in Retirement. This change is consistent with International Trends-USA, Germany, Iceland, Norway & Denmark already have 67 as their Retirement Age...or are moving towards it. The UK has raised its Retirement Age to 68. All this...while leaving us with a Debt of almost Five Hundred Million Dollars. Times are tough...and the saying is When Times Get Tough...then we have to get Tougher! No Government can pluck millions of dollars out of thin air...it has to come from somewhere. I know a lot of these decisions made in Budgets affect a lot of people across many different sections - Health - Age - Education etc...but not everyone can expect to be happy when our Country is in such Debt. All Political Parties tell lies....thats just how it is. Deal with it and stop complaining. ....And if you want to compare which Party is responsible for the most lies over a lengthy period of time....just ask...& I will list them for you. I know already which one has the longest list and the most blatant lies of all! Just be happy with your lives and the fact that we live in Australia and not in some of the other Countries where they cant get the help we can and dont have the Medical and Pharmaceutical Benefits we can access. I know some people in the USA who have no idea how they are going to bury or cremate family members...as they dont have schemes like we do. Many of them cant seek Medical or Hospital Services because they dont have the schemes that we do. As for Retirement Age rising to 70....you are very foolish if you dont think that for genuine people who are unable to work to that age...for whatever reason...wont be given the opportunity to receive a benefit of some kind. It wont be called the Aged Pension...but there will be an alternative...there always is!! Why cant we all just be Proud to be Australians and stop this Political Hate War? We are not normally known as a whingeing Population...so stop with all the negative attitude and show the rest of the World that we are not the way they are perceiving us to be. At the end of the day....no matter which Political Party is in Power..the Sun still rises and we still somehow manage to battle on! Very long Rant OVER!
