I am so tired of reading all this nonsense commentaries over Article 12 of the CNMI Constitution, especially from those who are against it. The reason why we have land alienation restriction in our Constitution is to preserve our identity and self-determination from becoming extinct through evolution. Growth and development are the basis of cultural disappearance of ethnic groups, such as the Pacific Islanders. If we let the Federal Government have their way, as far as imminent domain is concerned, we will lose majority of our land to federal land use. On second thought, can you imagine the disintegration of our livelihood systems when big corporations buy up the whole chunk of our land in the name of economic prosperity? Are all these justifiable for local people to lose their identity, most especially, their individual assets, such as land obtained from their ancestors? If you come to understand these elements that are very dear to our hearts as islanders, then you complainers should accept it and move on with your lives. Get a life!
