I am so very disappointed in Orrs Elementary School. First let me start off by saying. I was born in Griffin and lived there until I was 26 years old and then moved to Dahlonega Ga. The schools were awesome there. I moved back to Griffin in 2013. My daughter started 1st grade at Orrs. She had 3 different teachers throughout the year. I had growing concerns after the first few months of school about her being behind. She just didnt seem to be getting things like she should. I spoke with the teachers on multiple occasions and went to several parent/teacher conferences with my concerns. I even went to the assistant principal with my concerns. I was told on every occasion that my child was not behind, she was on her grade level , that I should have no worries and concerns. I trusted the school system...even over my motherly instinct....and here is the problem. I just moved to Forsyth County where she started 2nd grade, I voiced my concerns to the teacher, after a few days into school the teacher calls me to tell me that my daughter is a full grade level behind and she suggest putting her back in the 1st grade! Im so upset! Its like she learned virtually nothing in 1st grade except site words. Im so upset and frustrated. How does one tell their child I know youve been in 2nd grade for a week but you have to go back to the 1st? Both school systems follow Common Core by the way.
