I am somewhat disheartened, no, sad about the current political maneuvering in HongKong. The sadness comes from how enforcement related brutality can be legitimized in the name of public safety; The cruel truth that the social strata that benefits from the current regime can go as far as they selfishly and viciously wished to maintain their status quo (whether it be money or power) hurts, while you witness people that claimed powerless, people that attended demonstration in the morning, leaving for emigration aborad by the evening, what can one do, what can you do? Frankly, if you are rich enough to leave, you should do so by now. If you are oppotunistic and parasitic, say you own a business, or perhaps some kind of professional services, feel free to enterprise and enjoy the fruits of class struggles like these. My personal bleak outlook is there would not be revolution taken place (as if it actually can ever happen). Similar to the mass clearence sales of Brazil soccer jerseys after their crushing defeat, no HongKonger would be foolish (?) enough (albeit somewhat romatic, and often jeered by fellow industrious and reactionary collegues saying you cant eat your romanticism) to fight a losing (?) battle. Of course, if you are wise (enough), Id say follow the examples of Daniel in the Old Testement, perhaps this is not the time for change, so dont bother starting one (ie peaceful opposition). Be an efficient bureaucrat, a successful lawyer, finance management, what have you. And hopefully unlike the vast majority of Chinese, whom learned from their forefathers and peers to work like a dog so they could eat like a pig, you can actually benefit beyond your immediate household, and try be a somewhat decent human being, for once. Hopefully. Few would go underground and extremist, some might resolve to violence and terrorists devices, yet unlike the crusades of old, and the jihads of now, such revolution lacks both the vision and the drive that can mobilize sufficient members of society to destabilize the current system to change, for better or for worse. And when finally such change is move into motion, its often for the wrongest reasons. Say general economic collapse so that death is gain instead of loss or, governace failing to protect not the public, but the powerful and the rich, et cetera.
