I am sorry this is distressing, and I would not post it did I not feel it to be important that as many of us as possible rally to send a strong message that this is NOT acceptable on any level. I really just dont even have the words for this. The same day that we were privileged to be able to view the safe, humane neutering by Dr. Renee Ferguson of Mountain View Veterinary Hospital of three of the Tinykittens Kittens of Oz kittens, I come to read this. Nobody who is not a currently licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine should be conducting surgical procedures on any animal anywhere, and much less without proper anesthesia and analgesia. The fact that it was done in a school classroom is almost incidental, except insofar as the terrible message it gives these kids, that cruelty to animals doesnt matter, and is condoned by their school district. And yes, folks. This story is for real. And a (thankfully I believe apparently former) animal shelter board member actually condoned this, allegedly opining that it was OK because barn cats are different from house cats.
