I am spending a couple of days with Pierre H. Matisse, the grandson of Henri Matisse. He recently turned 86 years old, and invited me to his home studio in Port Orange Florida, where we are painting our first collaborations. We started painting early this morning, and this is the first time I have used a palette knife, his favorite painting tool. In just a few hours, we completed our fist collaboration “Neptune-Protector of the Sea.” Pierre began painting a moonlit sea featuring Neptune at the surface with his trident, I excitingly jumped in there and added a great hammerhead shark in the fore ground, with pallet knife in hand. I have to tell you the original looks amazing. Before it dried we singed it together and I am planning to publish it in the mere future. We had so much fun, and are now working on a second titled “Angels of the Sea.” Pierre had this idea that he wanted to share with me, of a mermaid with wings, in fact he gifted me with the original painting today. This painting was the inspiration for our second collaboration, which features his angel with wings greeting two bottlenose dolphins. You will have to wait a few hours we are still painting it right now. This has to be one of the greatest honors of my life, and I know Pierre is enjoying this too!
