I am starting to realize how vital it is to be yourself unapologetically and have no fear about it. Its important to express yourself and enjoy your interests without feeling fear or waiting for approval. Im so tired of feeling like I need to apologize for liking different bands, hairstyles, foods, movies, etc. if the person Im deciding to share my interests with goes ew! or this is bad or why do you like this? I dont have guilty pleasures. Thats such a ridiculous concept. I dont feel guilty for liking what I like, I just enjoy it. Period. Guess what? I actually LIKE anthem bands like U2, Aerosmith, Paper Tongues, Queen, and Switchfoot. I like red lipstick and sparkly nail polish and lace-up boots and big sweaters. I like Nintendo and Mario and Zelda. I like comic books. I like tea parties. I like kids cartoons and I have no problem revisiting things I enjoyed in my childhood! That doesnt make me less of a person! I like college football and I like Sephora. I like sprinkling salt on my watermelon and cucumbers and putting potato chips in my ice cream sometimes. I like big sounds and intensity and contrast and boldness. I like so many candles and lights and I like holidays and I like wintertime. I like being a barista! I like the smell of vinegar. I prefer wine to beer and whiskey to vodka (and fresh smoothies to all of it). If you dont like any of those things, absolutely fine! Go for it! I wouldnt want to force you to try and end make yourself enjoy what I do anymore than I want you to do the same to me. But if you have anything nasty to say when I am expressing myself or enjoying my interests or even if I share something with you to see if youd like it, you can keep it to yourself. The appropriate response to my expressing my love for Florence + The Machine is not ew, gross, I hate her, why?? Life is way too short for me to be concerned with anyones approval that way. Im going to go do things I love. I really hope you do the same.
