I am still trying to figure out the name of the road today that this bridge would have been on. I posted it earlier today. When I was a child in the early 1950s we went through Caroleen to go to my great-grandparents farm. My mother grew up in Caroleen. If you are in Caroleen with the mill on the right, you would turn left two streets before the depot and go out into the country from there. The road was dirt at that time. Since I was so young, I just remember that the road was dirt. I remember the bridge and hearing the sound that the tires and wood deck planks of the bridge made as we crossed the river. My great-grandparents actually had a Route #2 Ellenboro address, even though it seemed like we were closer to Caroleen. I tried to look at Google Earth and follow the river from Caroleen toward Ellenboro and look for the current bridge. Because of the trees, it was hard to see roads and bridges. My great-grandparents were Carson Bascom Back Harrill and Margaret Maggie Randall Harrill. After Grandpa Harrill died in 1954, the farm was sold some years later to Gene Holland who was a cousin. Also on that land was my great-great grandfathers house (Reverend William White House Billy Harrill) who was married to Easter Suttle. Easter was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Suttle and Sarah Baxter Suttle (daughter of William Suttle Sr. in the Baxter Cemetery). My great-great grandfathers house was probably dismantled in the 1970s. It was made of hand-hewn squared logs. The logs had been weather boarded over. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the name of the current road that this bridge would have been on. My parents took this photo before the old bridge was torn down. As you can see the wood decking is rotted and some boards missing. After the bridge was torn down, there was no bridge for awhile and you had to go to Ellenboro to get to the farm. Later, a modern bridge was built (concrete, I guess.) Sorry this is so long, but would love to know that name of the road. Thanks.
