I am sure this will make a few fitness pros head spin, but this exercise has helped my low back feel soooooooooo much better. https://youtube/watch?v=koi9dAJLWcE I first heard about it from coach Christopher Sommer Check out his podcast with Robb Wolf --awesome stuff!! I started doing them in July of this year with just 5 lb weighted bar, then up to a 45 lb bar in a few weeks. From there it took months before I added any weight. Even now I am only up to 95 lbs for 4-8 reps at a time. The goal here is not a max strength move, but to help condition the soft tissue and restore some mobility. Soft tissue has a very long turn over time. Take your time. I find it very interesting in the PRI courses that they talk about how many people are stuck in low back extension (and I would agree). When I reviewed my training, I was always moving better, with less pain, and more energy when I was doing lighter Atlas stones. When I used a ROM test on them (ala biofeedback) , they were almost always good to go. I asked Dr. Pat Davidson about stone lifting and he agreed that it has worked well for him and his clients. Again, stones do have their risks and I feel the Jefferson Curl is a safer way to slowly progress this movement pattern for most people. I have had some clients start with ONLY bodyweight. If there is any pain, dont do it. Open to any thoughts, post up below
