I am surprised by the double morality of the foreign opinion. Of course, the economic, environmental, social, and political state of the Haitian nation brings nothing but sadness to everyone who sees them, and I wish nothing but the growth of their country in all these aspects. HOWEVER, I think its very simple to just say hey, Dominican Republic, why dont you just take care of them?. We are talking about a country that Dominicans fought to become free from, and while its fair that we give them all the help we can in their time of need ( because the human condition has no race or nationality) it is not fair that foreign countries try to bend the sovereignty and rights of our nation, and pretend to force us to deal with all the problems that country has. The corruption, issues in education and hunger that theyve developed throughout the decades will not disappear by erasing the borders; they will set this nation back. Sadly, Haiti has not learned how to manage their country despite being one of the first countries to become independent in America (because America is a continent) Their side of the island used to be the richest in agriculture, but they have managed to destroy their soils (Not by an earthquake, not by a natural disaster, but by their own hands). Their condition did not begin with the earthquake. It definitely made it worse, but it is not to be blamed for their current state. If world powers feel the need to help, how about finding other ways instead of having a third world country assume the responsibility of 10 million more lives. No one forces the United States to open their borders to Mexico or any other country. Hey, USA, do you know how many people want to go there searching for a better life and you dont allow them? Guess what, we respect your right to do so. Why dont you take your opinion and apply it to yourself. If Canada feels the burden on the Haitian people, why dont they take just a million of the Haitians willing to work, study and grow to their very developed country? If Im not mistaken theyre looking for people to move there...If you feel you need to help build houses for them, do it in their country, stop trying to make THIS a better country for THEM. In no way do I support or promote discimination, racism or xenophobia and I condemn the dominicans who mistreat them for being Haitians. I know amazing people from our neighbor country who I care about and value deeply, but as a Dominican, in no way can I support a threat to our indepence. Compatriots, let us erect Our front, proud today more ; Quisqueya may be destroyed But a slave again, never ! - Dominican National Anthem Compatriotas, mostremos erguidaNuestra frente, orgullosos de hoy más;Que Quisqueya será destruidaPero sierva de nuevo, ¡jamás!
