I am thankful I still have an intact thumb. In the dark, I chose - TopicsExpress

I am thankful I still have an intact thumb. In the dark, I chose to move the floor stand fan. The shroud that surrounds the fan blade is made from cheap metal. As I grabbed the shroud to move the fan my thumb bent the wires in the shroud and my thumb passed through into the path of the metal fan blade which was turning at max speed. The pain was so intense I wavered for a moment and got that feeling like one gets when they are about to faint. It felt like someone had smashed my thumb with a hammer. Ouch!!! I started for the sink to run some cold water over my thumb; dripping blood on the floor along the way. It looks ugly today and it still seeps some blood, because the injury is right in the area where I normally grasp something with my hand. Victoria was kind enough to help me clean up the mess and cover the wound with a Band-aid. This morning I looked at the metal blade. About 3 inches from the tip of blade the metal was curled up like a potato peeling. The good thing is that I was able to bend it back with a pair of pliers and then flatten it back into shape with a hammer. And it works! Not any vibration at all. My New Years resolution is: Turn off the fans before attempting to move them.
