I am thankful as I know my life could always get worse. You - TopicsExpress

I am thankful as I know my life could always get worse. You know... Thanksgiving has always been a weird feeling holiday for me. Being part native American, but my name being from England.... historically-wise, down through the ages, my families histories is the culmination on the projected nice first thanksgiving meeting.... where everyone sat around having a great time.... I just dont really think it happened that way.... so I have a weird time celebrating it. Certainly be thankful!... but be thankful everyday.... With technology the way it is today, you can see your family more then just once a day... even if online. I do understand the importance of seeing each other face to face... but you get more days off work then just thanksgiving (normally).... family reunions seem to be a thing of the past.... Now people being upset that people have to work on thanksgiving... People have always worked on thanksgiving... From the people broadcasting your TV shows so you can watch those movies, to the parade works, the gas station attendant so you can GET to your family, to the people at the grocery story for a last min emergency gravy run... Most families I know, if they participate in black Friday, stay in town and go together in the morning. They make it a family shopping trip. I do not see anything wrong with giving you the option to go after dinner, as a lot of people have to work on Friday. And normally the people that worked the holiday, get the following day off. The employees seem to have forgotten that they agreed to be available when they were hired. I know I always was when I took a job that was open on holidays. Most are paid extra and have reduced shifts. Just seems like people got jealous that other people got the day off and picked some random reason to connect it too. It actually sounds to me that the stores are trying to redirect part of the customer base from 5 AM to Thursday night. This would actually spread out the traffic in the stores, making it EASIER for the workers and not AS swamped Friday morning. But this is just my opinion. And after you eat.... what are you going to do for the rest of the day? You could go shopping together. I always found this was the best way to get to know someone... you get to learn what they like, and what they dont like.... ...
