I am the luckiest person who has ever gotten a flat tire on I-26!!! Bella and I traveled to Asheville today. Its our tradition to stop at the first rest area in NC. Its so quaint...up a hill...rock architecture. We love it. So we pulled in and headed up the hill. I heard a thump thump thump and thought it must be the road but it sure did sound like a tire, but I didnt feel anything flat. I parked. Got out and heard HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Crap, flat tire! Rear passenger side. See the blade of blue metal sunk into the tread like a knife. It was cut and leaking fast. It was about 5pm, still light. Went into the restroom to relieve myself and make a plan. Found the Roadside Assistance card in my wallet. Decided to call hubby (the car wiz) to run my plan past him first. Walked out to the car and up pulled a Highway Patrolman. He said youve gotta.... I said Ive gotta flat. Can you help? He parked. Got out and headed over to help. I had never changed a tire on this car before so I was a little embarrassed to not know how it all worked. Got out the manual. We needed to remove a cap to access a nut that released the spare under the car. He pulled out a NICKEL. (This is astounding because Choose Nickels is my 2015 motto which Ill explain another time. I had asked God earlier in the day show me nickels.) So a nickel, not a quarter, to insert into the groove to remove the cap. Patrolman jacked the car, swapped tires, and tightened the lug nuts. All this took only about 20 minutes. I am so lucky. We had already slowed down. Already pulling over. It was still light out. Patrolman pulled up within two minutes. I have an appointment in Asheville at the Hyundai dealership to get a new tire tomorrow before the drive home. I have road angels. I know it. I am the luckiest person to get a flat tire.
