I am thrilled to report that the Cairo Historical Society has just been awarded a grant for a new historical marker. This marker will be for Thurlow Weed, who was born in Acra in 1797 and became a very influential newspaperman and politician in New York State. Many political historians call him the president maker as his influence in four presidential races resulted in his candidate being elected, including Abraham Lincoln! The marker will be displayed in Acra at the corner of 23B and 31. Many thanks go out to the folks at Acra Manor for allowing us to place the marker there. We will be sending the specifications to the manufacturer soon for the making of the historical marker and announcements will be made when it will be erected.
