I am tired of lying to my players by saying the officials are right- They are not!!!! The girls high school basketball game has changed for the worse. I watched my players completely struggle to figure out why they were called for several fouls last night when they absolutely did not foul. The game has become about the officical and that is NEVER good! Basketball is a physical sport and the stronger players or players who play strong should have an advantage. That advantage has been taken away because of stupid ticky tack fouls that are more common at the 3rd and 4th grade levels. Girls playing strong are being punished. If it is a legitimate foul call it. Because two players have contact doesnt mean it is a foul. If the player on offense or defense is drastically effected by the opponent and it changes their play due to extreme contact...call it! But contact doesnt mean there is a foul. What frustrates me the most is the pompas attitude when you get on the officials for obvious bad calls. As coaches we work all week long to prepare our players and teach them. It completely goes out the window because of several bad calls because of the newer stupid rules. I had an official say to me last night he thought his partner made a bad call! But nothing could be done about it- my starting point guard had to sit in the 3rd quarter because of this horrible call and the game instantly changed because of it. When the officials are wrong they protect themselves by threatening or giving a technical foul- they bail themselves out when they screw up. THERE NEEDS TO BE CHECKS AND BALANCES IF THE GAME IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE DOMINATED BY THE OFFICIALS. Yes- I hate how the game of basketball is being changed for the worse! Can you tell.
