I am typing this at 4 in the morning, taking stock of the provisions I have bought through donations, for a homeless food distribution run I am doing later tonight. I am exhausted but it is a valuable experience and opportunity. I initially asked for RM320 and in less than two weeks I raised RM4,620. Friends have donated wholeheartedly, with absolute faith and trust in what I do. It is something I find difficult to get my head around. I have grown a lot this past year. Leaving a life of discipline and simplicity in China in April and returning to the real world, I have learned as well as unlearned, followed and lead, done nothing and everything, held on and let go, forgiven, lost and loved. I thought life would be boring after Kung fu school. But I have realized we should never excuse ourselves from living a life that isnt. I was inspired by my own research for my radio show. A US couple had used the funds meant for their marriage and honeymoon, to instead travel around doing one good deed in each of the 51 states. Replacing the two occasions we all have the license to be selfish with, this couple said they are happiest when they make others happy. Such a basic concept, easily lost amidst the emails and the phonecalls, the filters and the hashtags, the sales and the member cards, the pecs and the curves, the Candy and the Birds. Feeding the homeless on my birthday reminds me that some people out there dont get to celebrate with cake; some dont have a certificate to know when their birthday is. Feeling this small keeps me big. There is no other feeling like it. Thank you for your generosity and support on this great day like any other. May we all continue to lift each other up, find the possible in the impossible, and be honest agents of change. -Davina-
