I am unable to be as passive as this woman is in her video. I also recognize she was doing such to prove a point to raise awareness on what it is like to be a woman in todays streets. This is the reality of bigger cities, unless you have traveled, extensively you really have no idea how hollaring can go right over the top. If you acknowledge them verbally, they grow hopeful & escalate. If you smile, same deal. If you stay silent, you SEE what happens in the video. Most women arent like me when it comes to being assertive. As Aaron tells me all the time... I am the exception to the rule. I think I am finally getting it. For the sake of helping women who may be traveling to bigger cities in the future, here is how I handle myself & it makes ALL the difference! Do no harm, but take no $hit! Allow that to be your inner mantra! 1. Predators approach easy prey, rules of the jungle fully apply. 2. I move with intent to secure myself and my possessions. Take a self defense class to own your body and your personal space. It will help you to be better capable of moving with intent without even needing to try, it becomes instinctual. 3. I have zero qualms making assertive eye contact with someone invading my space or pace. I am typically intimidating enough to cause most street harassing back off with eye contact and a serious look of the stink eye. 4. Should a harasser kick it up even higher with the confrontation, I have and would again take it the route I am certain that your mother and grandmother raised you to be a better gentleman than you are displaying here this very moment to me, how about you display the behavior they taught you and make them proud. Calling it the CLASSY conflict approach. I admit, I have absolutely zero issue with having my hand on my mace at the same time, as you have no idea how a person will react. 5. Carry mace or pepper spray, something for self defense. You are your strongest protection and safety advocate!! Spray and RUN! 6. It is and always will be safer for we women to travel in 2 or 3. That is the REALITY of our society, while it is evolving we arent to that SAFE spot yet. Please tag the women in your life that you feel NEED to know this information.
